~~Our History~~

The Zonta Club of Utica was founded in 1919, one of nine clubs begun in the first year. In the 85 years since, Utica Zontians have continually worked to enhance the status of women in the Utica area.

~~How We Raise Money For Our Service Projects~~

Over the last 10 years, our annual Champagne Brunch and Charity Auction has been our principal source of funds. Held in April, the brunch features executive waitresses who compete to earn the most tips, a huge raffle auction, silent auction and a verbal auction with a local celebrity woman as auctioneer. In recent years, the brunch has raised over $10,000 annually, this past year being our most successful--over $17,000!

~~ Our Local Service To Women ~~

The Zonta Club of Utica has selected the Comprehensive Breast Care Center at the Regional Cancer Center at Faxton Hospital as our on-going major project. The Breast Care Center is dedicated to providing support and assistance to women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Through our support the waiting room has been furnished to provide a warm welcome, and women without means have received assistance to obtain prostheses or needed services. Volunteers, including Zontians, will be reaching out into the community this year to promote early detection.

Zonta members also get together to sew hats for women who have lost their hair during chemotherapy. Since the inception of this project in November 2000, we have donated OVER 1,000 hats of various styles to CBCC.

~~ More Local Service ~~
Zonta awards scholarships to area women in financial need who area returning to school to improve their economic condition, and presents awards to high school students who excel in leadership and community service. Local women are also given opportunities to apply for Zonta International scholarships and awards.

Other Zonta Club of Utica projects include collecting items for Hall House the shelter for battered women, and clothes for the Women's Employment and Resource Center. Recent hands on projects have included cooking with the girls who reside at New Horizons and painting a room at Swancott Retirement Home for Women.
